In the second language learning process,students will be inevitably transferred by their mother tongue.it is necessary to study at which aspects the transfer works and why the transfer comes into effect.Through empirical studies,this paper studies at which aspects the transfer exists and analyzes the causes of transfer,and also put forward some solutions for reference of English teaching.First of all,this paper analyzed some relating theories.Such as “language transfer ”,“error analysis”,“interlanguage”,etc.and compared English and Chinese from linguistic and pragmatic aspects.All these theories laid a foundation for empirical study.Secondly,this paper analyzed and calculated the errors from the compositions of non-English major students.These students were required to write an English composition with the same title at class and after class.The author classified the errors in the compositions handed in and calculated the numbers and rates,finally,concluded that there are lexical and grammar transfer among students' composition.Thirdly,I used questionnaire concerning situation reflection to test students' English pragmatic competence.I marked the questionnaires of students from three levels,which are respectively top students,secondary students and low achievers and calculated the passing rate in each level.The result reflected that students are influenced by Chinese thought pattern while interacting in English context.Because Chinglish interaction occurs on a large scale.I concluded that pragmatic transfer existed among Chinese students.Lastly,I analyzed the causes of language transfer and offered solutions for reference.Through researching,I concluded that lexical transfer,grammatical transfer and pragmatic transfer exist among Chinese students.Through scanning the errors in the compositions and questionnaires,I analyzed the causes of transfer.All of these finding can offer a reference for English teaching.This paper mainly consists of five chapters:Chapter1: introduction.It mainly introduced researching background,researching significance and outline of this paper.Chaper2: literature review.It mainly introduced and analyzed some relating theories and points.Such as: language transfer,error analysis,contrast study,etc.Chapter3: research design.It listed research question,subjects,methods which consists of composition error analysis,questionnaire.Chapter4: result and discussion.It analyzed errors from students' composition and questionnaires and also classified these errors,and then calculated the rates.Finally,I concluded that lexical,grammatical and pragmatic transfer exist among students.I also analyzed the causes for transfer.Chapter5: conclusion.I summarized the finds of this study and also pointed out the weakness.
