The translation of tourism publicity texts refers to the texts for tourism publicity which have been translated from the original language to the target language.It is insense a window for foreign tourists to know about China,and may even to some extent affect their basic impression on China.It is doubtlessly of great importance to have a proper translation.This thesis will make an analysis on some collected tourism publicity texts from the perspective of cross-cultural pragmatic failure,try to find out the reasons for the cross-cultural pragmatic failure exist and propose useful ways to improve it.Chapter one is about the introduction,the research background,purposes and significance of the thesis are introduced.Chapter two is the literature review,it summarize the main ideas and concepts of the studies of cross-cultural pragmatic failure and tourism publicity texts both at home and abroad.Chapter three is the methodology.30 samples of texts have been collected from the governmental website and its links.Qualitative and comparative research methods have been applied in analysis to the research subjects,texts collecting procedures and analysis.In chapter four,based on the classification proposed by Jenny · Thomas,i.e.,the cross-cultural pragmatic failure can be divided into pragmalinguistic failure and sociopragmatic failure,the thesis would also analyze the tourism publicity texts based on her classification.Chapter five is the conclusion,the thesis propose two suggestions based on the analysis of the tourism publicity texts which have the problems of cross-cultural pragmatic failure.At the same time,the thesis also indicates the limitations of the study and suggests that the classification of cross-cultural pragmatic failure could be detailed in the future.
