Alberto Ginastera's Piano Sonata No.1:Analysis And Performance

According to the research on the current status of the piano artistry in China,there have already been a great number of studies on classical piano musics during the Baroque Period,Classical Period and Romantic Period in terms of the composition and style.Likewise,expressionism,neo-classicism and nationalism reflected by the piano music in modern times have been systematically studied.In contrast,research on the Argentine nationalist music and the music of Latin America represented by Alberto Evaristo Ginastera's works is still in its burgeoning process.His works often integrate Argentine folk themes.Among other distinguishing features,his music composed in different periods varies in their use of traditional Argentine musical elements to express its unique nationalism.With the works of Ginastera as the subject,this thesis aims to enrich the sporadic research on the music of Latin America.Based on the research both domestic and abroad,the thesis focuses on the "Piano Sonata No.1" which is the only one piano solo composition in Ginastera's mid-years.The composing style and the use of nationalist music elements in the works created by Ginastera in his mid-years are analyzed.The introduction of new materials and rhythmic pattern into his music is discussed,and help further understand the Argentine nationalist music and the Latin music as a whole.This study can also fill in the gap of the research on Latin music in China.It is hoped that with the analysis as well as the future prospects concerning the "Piano Sonata No.1",the thesis will be a good reference for pianists in overcoming technical difficulties and expressing the unique style while performing this piece of music in the future.
