Specters Of Totality

Totality,as a way for human beings to grasp the unknown world,is a theory with great explanatory power and vitality.Even though totality has been criticized and negated in twentieth century,its overall,dialectical and rational characteristics still have practical significance.This paper attempts to use Jameson's cultural political interpretation theory to reflect the existence of totality in the post-modern context.For Jameson,the concept of totality is an important tool to solve the dilemma of postmodernism which throughout his theory and critical activities.To study the construction and development of Jameson's totality thought,to understand Jameson's tactics and tactics against totality crisis,is of great significance to re evaluate the totality and its theoretical value and development prospect in the postmodern context.This paper holds that Jameson's persistence and transformation of totality provides a powerful reference for us to solve the postmodern predicament.At this moment,totality is still an insurmountable theoretical vision and a guardian of political and ethical bottom line.
