The Study Of China National Railway Association (1912-1936 )

China National Railway Association was officially established in Beijing in Jun.1912, under the advocacy and organization of celebrities of railway industry in China during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China including Liang Shiyi and Ye Gongchuo. Targeting at developing railway cause, assisting in railway administration,protecting railway rights, transmitting railway knowledge and establishing and maintaining friendship of railway peers, the association had positively participated in various railway affairs during the period of Beijing Government, with expanding organization scale and increasing influence in railway industry during the period of Republic of China. After the establishment of Nanjing National Government, the association moved its headquarters to Nanjing and reconstructed its position and speaking right in railway industry during the period of Republic of China. Under the new leadership, the association had further developed its affair activities with gradual increase of members, and participated in the construction and development of railway cause of Modern China more extensively. On the eve of the Broking of Comprehensive Anti-Japanese War in 1937,the association had turned into the greatest social organization in railway industry of Modern China with the longest history.This paper puts the proceedings and journals run by China National Railway Association as the main materials with the reference of journals, files, biographies and other historical data during the same period related to the association, to reorganize and analyze its establishment background, development purpose, organization overview and major activities it participated in railway industry. In the relation network jointly constructed by railway affairs and national affairs, China National Railway Association had not only conducted the railway investigation and academic study positively 'and assisted in the government to improve railway affairs, but also paid attention to foreign aggression from the perspective of railway issues to protect the rights and interests of China's railways. Moreover, the association had organized affairs and recreational activities on a regular basis to establish and maintain the friendship among railway peers;and promoted the transmission and popularity of railway knowledge via organizing lectures and issuing journals. The series of activities organized by the association had demonstrated its great position and influence in the railway industry during the period of Republic of China and promoted the construction and development of railway cause of Modern China.
