The Beauty Of Silence—the Study Of Artistic Blank In Shen Congwe's Novels

There are always some unspecified parts in the content or form which is known as naturally "blank" for the reason that it is impossible for literary to describe everything in detail and the characteristics of the literary language itself, however, this paper focus on the art "blank" that intentionally constructed by the author Shen Congwen in the novel. On the basis of researching the development of the theory of "blank", this paper will analyzes the artistic "blank" and its implication in Shen Congwen's novels combining with the related theory of accepting aesthetics.The character shaping and structure organization is the main component to show the artistic "blank" in Shen Congwen's novels. The dialogue and behavior of characters skipped deliberately, the virtual psychology and ambiguous characters seted up making the characters well-developed and more vivid. The author sets up intermittent scenes and open ending skillfully in the structure arrangement in order to push the development of story's plot as well as to make the novel structure more diversified. Shen Congwen grasp the art of "blank"appropriately and correctly, making his novel to create a very rich aesthetic implication, both simple beauty of "romantic created by no words" and implicit beauty of "Silence means more than words at this very moment", even there is a charming beauty of"Whirling around the beam for three days".In short, the artistic "blank" not only did not block the amount of information in the Shen Congwen's novels, but also greatly motivate the reading interest and reading imagination of readers, making readers to use the aesthetic experience to fill the vacancy of information in the text actively, and then the indeterminacy of meaning in the novel will most likely be excavated in the process of the reader's participation.
