The Research On Difference In Event Related Potential (ERPs) Of Typical Yang And Typical Yin Persons Provoked By Joy Or Sorrow

Background: The Five-pattern Personality Inventory(FPPI),as the first China's localized personality questionnaire with the high reliability and expert validity,has been regarded as the representative achievement of psychology of TCM.Scholars have applied this questionnaire on a lot of clinical researches,but the experimental researches using it on neural physiological mechanism are rare.Objective: The aim of this paper was to reveal the difference in Event Related Potential(ERPs)of typical Yang and typical Yin persons provoked by joy and grief and initially explore the difference in cognitive neuro mechanism of the five-pattern personality.Methods: Based on the significance of the diverse reflections of different personalities provoked by emotion activation,This research applied Event-related Potential(ERP)to collect ERPs components of the subjects of different personality provoked by emotion activation,who were selected by The Five-pattern Personality Inventory(FPPI)and Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90).The independent variables were the data on personality,emotion and encephalic regions.The data on amplitude and latency of ERPs components were acted as the dependent variable.Variance analysis of three factors mixed experimental design were used for analyzing 3 personality groups,including typical Yang five-pattern personality,typical Yin five-pattern personality and atypical five-pattern personality,and 3 emotional activation types,including joy,grief and neutral emotional activation,as well as 4 encephalic regions as follows left frontal,right frontal,frontal and parietal regions.Conclusion:1.From the perspective of the data of ERPs,P170,N2,two kinds of endogenous ERPs components,are mainly triggered in frontal and parietal regions,and the maximum peak of these two components are in the frontal region.The results of ERP data show that the interaction is emerged among personality factors,emotional activation type and the encephalic regions.The personality factor of the amplitude of P170 has significant main effect.Both personality factors and emotional factors of the amplitude and latency of N2 have significant differences.2.From the perspective of the ERPs wave,both emotional factors and personality factor of the amplitude of P170 and N2 show the interaction,while the results of ERPs data analysis shows no significant interaction.The reason for this would be related with the number of subjects,the intensity of emotional activation or the environment setting.So the further researches are needed.
