Study On Odilon Redon's Symbolism Painting

Odilon Redon who is one of the main representatives of the nineteenth century French Symbolism painting,was born in 1840 in Bordeaux in the south of France.His paintings are well known for its mysterious unreal dream scenes,but the paintings had never been away from the real world.This paper focused on the study of Redon's symbolism painting style,and the evolution of his art style is divided into two periods: black and color.Lonely childhood experience,reflections from the disease during the war and the pain of losing a child put Redon in great grief and was unable to go out,So this period of painting was mainly on black prints and drawings.The birth of his second son was the turning point of his painting,which was regarded as the beginning of his color period.With regaining the happy life,Redon was full of enthusiasm and put himself into the new creation.His black and white picture began to appear bright,brilliant colors.And he became attached to color until the end of his life.This study mainly started with the background of Redon's life background,and analysed the painter's growth experience and the reasons for the formation of his art style.In addition to the painter's own subjective perception of he soul,it focused on the analysis of the external objective factors and the formation of his artistic style.the mutual communication between the painter and the poet of symbolism and their development,the guidance of a botanist friend in the scientific field,and the influence of previous painters and the contemporary painters of his period.All of these can make a diffence in further analysing Redon's mystery painting style,and exploring the humanity and warmth that were behind the mystery,which the painter wanted to express.The painting of Redon's thought and impact on later painting will be made further elaboration in this study.
