A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Link Verb "be" In Marine Accident Investigation Reports

The Marine Accident Investigation Report is of great importance to the safety of marine transportation,the analysis of marine accidents causes and prevention of marine accidents.Study on translation of MAIR will do good to draw lessons from world marine accidents,normalize the writing of Chinese marine accident investigation reports and prevent similar accidents.The report studies on Chinese translation of link verb "be" in Marine Accident Investigation Report,aiming at promoting the translation study of link verb "be" in"be+predictive" structure."be+predictive" structure is simple,concise and full of information.If used properly,the article will be more concise and vivid.The frequent use of"be+predictive" structure in Marine Accident Investigation Report highlights the character and style.When translating the "be+predictive" structure,the author finds that some of "be"can be translated,some cannot,and some can be omitted to make the translation better although it is translatable.Therefore,how to translate "be" becomes a problem.Based on Hans J.Vermeer's Skopos Theory,the structure is divided into different kinds and the solutions are found after analyzing cases.There are five solutions:first,when the predicative is noun phrase,"be" is generally translated as " ?",in some cases,omitted according to the rhythm or translated freely according to the context.Second,when the predicative is adjective phrase or prepositional phrase,"be" does not have obvious lexical meanings,therefore,it is translated with zero translation generally and in some cases,translated as "? ".Third,when "it" is used as form subject in a sentence,"be" is also translated with zero translation.Fourth,in "there be" structure,"be" is translated as "?" or"??",with lexical meaning.
