Research On The Cultivation Of English Majors’ Practical Ability Of In The Universities In Hohhot

The college graduates majored in English should be professional talents with high quality and strong ability.Practical ability is a very important comprehensive ability for them.As the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,Hohhot city is also the cultural and economic exchange center.As international exchanges become more frequent,English is used more widely in Hohhot.College students majored in English are the mainstay of the new age and the cultivation of their use of English to communicate with foreigners and solve problems has become the inevitable trend of English practical ability training in colleges and universities.In order to understand the practical ability of college students majored in English in Hohhot,this paper takes 431 English major students from six universities in Hohhot as the subjects of investigation.questionnaire,interview,literature and comparative study are used in investigates.The major studies including the cognition of the importance of students’ English listening,speaking,reading,writing and translating abilities,main limiting factors of the promotion of students’practical ability,the specific implementations of cultivating students’practical ability,students’ purpose for the participation in college English activities,and the practice means,practice time,practicability of curriculum and social needs of students majored in English etc..After study,the author found that the respondents showed different levels of dissatisfaction with the cultivation of the practical ability of English majors in Hohhot.At the same time,it also reflects some deficiencies at present in the cultivation of English majors’ practical ability training in colleges and universities,such as,insufficient emphasis on English practice,low realization of practice ability training goals and the impossibility in meeting the needs of the society etc..Therefore,the author puts forward the corresponding suggestions in this paper from the perspectives of increasing curriculum concerning English practice,creating an environment of open English teaching,and providing more practice after class,etc.,so as to enhance and develop the practical ability of college students majored in English in Hohhot.
