Design Research Of Nixing Pottery Incense Utensil Under The Idea Of Zen

The Zen,incense and pottery are elements rooted in Chinese traditional culture,so modern designers have been pursuing a kind of design with a unique oriental accent by a delicate integration of them.With a focus on combining the idea of Zen,the culture of incense and the characteristics of Nixing pottery,this article will take an exploration in the design of incense utensils in Nixing pottery,which,as one of the four famous types of pottery in China,is the primary material for incense utensils,and study how to consummately unite the texture of Nixing pottery with the forms of incense utensils from the perspective of Zen aesthetics.It is evident that a delicate link lies among the Zen,incense and Nixing pottery.Therefore,the article will summarize the regular patterns and their application features in how to express the Zen in design by reviewing the spirit of Zen,and,furthermore,attempt to design Nixing pottery incense utensils with a spirit of Zen by integrating the patterns and features with Chinese traditional culture of incense and the characteristics of Nixing pottery.This attempt will surely contribute to the exploration on the spirit of Zen in future product design,to the design of incense utensils,as well as to the development of Nixing pottery.The article consists of six chapters.The first chapter will focus on the origin,objective andsignificance of this project.In addition,the status quo of relevant research in China and abroad,together with the methodology and content,will be introduced.It will be discussed in the second chapter that the range of Zen in this project will be limited to the Zen in design and the research will aim at incense utensils only.The third chapter will elaborate knowledge related to the idea of Zen,including the origin of Zen,the relationship between the Zen and the idea of Zen,the applications of the idea of Zen in design,their regular patterns,while the fourth will introduce incense utensils as well as the application of the idea of Zen in them,particularly the link between the culture of incense and the idea of Zen.Nixing pottery is studied in the fifth chapter,and,together with comparative study on the development of pottery incense utensils,the advantages of Nixing pottery incense utensils are proposed.Based on the previous five chapters as well as an analysis on the available products in the market,the methods of designing pottery incense utensils with the idea of Zen are summarized by introducing examples from the perspectives of product forms,product texture,and product utilization.
