With the deepening of educational reform educators pay more and more attention to the cultivation of students' autonomous learning and comprehensive capability. The flipped classroom gains attention from educators because of its student centered teaching philosophy. And flipped classroom provides beneficial environment for autonomous learning. Therefore,it is worth to pay attention to help students accomplish better effect through autonomous learning, improve students' initiative and cultivate students' autonomous learning in the flipped classroom. In this study, questionnaire and interview are used as the research instruments, and the subjects are 84 non-English major freshmen in two classes of class A from Guangxi Normal University.A case study is conducted to investigate the status of students' autonomous learning in College English(integrated course).According to the data analysis of the survey, problems are found in students' autonomous learning in College English in flipped classroom. And strategies to improve autonomous learning are provided. The distribution and collection of questionnaire and interview of teachers were conducted at the end of the second semester of freshman year. The results of the questionnaire and interview were analyzed during the summer vacation of the second semester. The three research questions addressed in the present study are:(1)What is the overall situation of students' autonomous learning in College English in the flipped classroom?(2)What achievements have been made in students' autonomous learning?(3)What aspects still need to improve in students' autonomous learning?Through the study, three findings have been found:(1)Students are relatively clear of the teaching aims and requirements and realize the importance of transforming the teaching objectives into their own learning objectives.Students can basically catch up with teacher's teaching speed and understand teacher's intention in conducting certain teaching activities;(2)The situation of monitoring and evaluating the process of learning are in a medium level. Some students indicate they would seek opportunities to learn and apply English and overcome unfavorable emotional factors in learning English;(3)The situation of the use of learning strategies is relatively worse, and only a small number of students show they have a good understanding of learning strategies.Based on these findings, some suggestions are put forward for English teachers as well as non-English major students in order to improve students' autonomous learning in College English in flipped classroom. For teachers, they should stimulate students'intrinsic motivation, focus on training and guidance of the use of learning strategies and strengthen supervision on students' learning process. For students, they should play a major role in learning and monitor and evaluate the learning process properly to improve the learning methods and efficiency. The limitation of this study is the scope of research objects is small and the research results may not be very representative. It needs further study and improvement in the future.
