In the history of artistic development,the themes of food play different roles in oil paintings of different subjects and they have also undergone different stages of development.The significance of food is varied if being drawn by different artists.This paper makes a brief and simple summary of the food themes in the western oil paintings.Then by combining with his own ion experience in creation,the paper introduces the significance of food and the creation process of the work.The paper is divided into three parts for further elaboration: In the first part,the food themes are defined and categorized into noun,that is to say,the scope of the research object is made accordingly.In the second part,the paper sorts out and summarizes the food theme in the western oil paintings.The collected works related to food themes are classified according to different meanings and functions.Each classification is based in the section and the classic oil paintings that support this classification are listed as well.Finally,this paper reviews the classification of the works from the perspectives of historical background,philosophical trend of thoughts,aesthetic characteristics and so on.The application and expression ways of food themes are elaborated as well.In the third part,my motivation for creating works related to food themes,the inspiration and influence of the works of the predecessors and the creation process of the work are elaborated by combining with my own creative experience.In this way,I am able to elaborate unique characteristics of food themes perceived by me.Then I also explains how I make the food theme return to the most essential attributes of food--the personified food themes.Finally,I have summarized the shortcomings in the creation process so that the state of art can be heightened after times of polishing and honing.
