Tang Dynasty is the period when Chinese Gongbi(also called Chinese Realistic Painting)figure paintings flourished,and Gongbi style scroll paintings of court ladies are exceptional examples of the figure paintings of the period.With distinctive national features and unique presentation,such paintings remain a stand-out in the world history of art,shining out with eternal brilliance.While Gongbi paintings of court ladies in the Tang Dynasty are characterized by a unique charm of artistic style in its shapes,colours,lines,and compositions,the use of decorative patterns has added to its remarkable artistic features.The paper starts with Gongbi paintings of court ladies in the Tang Dynasty,the carrier of decorative patterns,reviews the background against which such paintings came about and the development process,and extends into the evolution of Tang Dynasty decorative patterns in the paintings of different periods.Through careful study and analysis of Tang Dynasty decorative patterns,it summarizes the overall categories and its epochal,regional and national traits.In the meantime,through study and analysis of the specific decorative patterns involved,it intends to reveal the humanistic spirit implicit in these paintings.The spirt is explored from the perspective of the Six Principles(liufa)of Chinese paintings.The purpose is to discuss the influence of such spirit on the design of the shapes,lines and colours of the decorative patterns used in such paintings.Study and analysis of the decorative feature of the elaborate costumes and the decorative patterns have led to the ornamental attribute of Tang Gongbi figure paintings,which as the embodiment of the social and the painter’s individual aesthetic appreciation,is the fundamental requirement of the humanistic spirit and the reflection of the specified sociocultural confidence of Tang Dynasty.Such cultural confidence dominated humanistic spirit is reflected in the deep and far-reaching influence it has exerted on cultures around the world.At the end of the paper,the focus is on the discussion of,based on the author’s own graduation work,the humanistic spirit contained in the decorative patterns of the current new cultural elements,the use of decorative patterns in the picture and the coordination of the pictorial relationship via decorative patterns.Through the analysis of the humanistic spirit in the decorative patterns of Gongbi paintings of court ladies in the Tang Dynasty,I have been inspired to gain new understanding of the elements of drawings and my creation of Gongbi style figure paintings has been upgraded to a new aesthetic level. |
