C-E Tourism translation of Chinese scenic spots has already been an important part of the reform and opening-up policy to attract foreign tourists as well as a strategy for internationalizing the traveling industry.C-E tourism translation is based on Chinese scenic spots.Thus in the translation process,translators should correctly introduce the information of the scenery and choose foreign-traveler-welcomed expressing manners.However,there are many problems of C-E tourism translation of tourism guidebooks,such as inappropriate tone,spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes,Chinglish,misuse of punctuation,no explanatory statement for the abbreviation,lack of comprehensive researches on differences between Chinese and English tourism materials,and listing the translation techniques without any classification.Therefore,this thesis makes a research on C-E tourism translation validity from the perspective of relevance theory,which aims to find out reasons for low C-E tourism translation validity as well as to provide some corresponding strategies.Relevance theory of Sperber and Wilson regards C-E tourism translation as a communication activity and an ostensive-inferential process,during which the translators and the target readers are communicative parties.According to relevance theory,the success of translation is closely related to translation validity,and translation validityhas positive correlation with convergence.Therefore,translators should try to reproduce stylistic features and artistic effect of the source text(ST),so that they could make the target readers acquire the similar contextual effect with the source-text readers.Moreover,the convergence between the ST and the TT is influenced by words,style,context,audience,rhetorical figures,discourse structure,and translation techniques.Therefore,according to relevance theory,analyzing C-E tourism translation from convergence will be helpful for searching the strategies to improve tourism translation validity.Meanwhile,most of the audiences of C-E tourism translation are foreign tourists,so acceptance from them directly influences translation validity.Moreover,the acceptance of the audiences has a positive correlation with convergence and translation validity.Therefore,it will be effective to analyze audience acceptance and convergence of the research on tourism translation validity.This thesis,based on relevance theory,and under the reference of DK Eyewitness Travel:China,analyzes examples of C-E tourism resources from lexical level,syntactical structure,discourse structure and audiences,so as to find out the weakness of tourism translation of tourism resources.Through the analysis,this thesis aims to search some strategies for improving convergence and audience acceptance,and to improve C-E tourism translation validity of tourism guidebooks.
