Analysis On The "Self-directed Growth" In The Initiation Stories Of "Afeter 1960s"

Growth is one of the mankind' s eternal themes.The growth during puberty is the key stage to one person' s growing up."Initiation stories”originated in the West,and it has undergone a rather complex process in the change of China's development.In the initiation stories of“After 1960s ",the growth of the protagonists has the features of“Self-directed Growth".The thesis focuses on this kind of"Self-directed Growth" of the protagonists,and it is divided into three parts.The introduction section focuses on the development history and conceptual definition of initiation stories in the West and East,especially the generating and developing history of initiation stories in China.The text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter focuses on the characters of "Self-directed Growth",and come to the conclusions successively that this kind of "Self-directed Growth" is the growth based on the protagonists ' own personal life sentiment,the growth from the consciousness of "Father Trial" to that of "seeking Father",and the protagonists'self-shaping during their wandering days.The protagonists got their personal sentimental feelings in their childhood,experienced.the exchange from the consciousness of "Father Trial" to that of "seeking Father" in their adolescence,and positively shaped themselves when they were drifting as youth.Basing on the typology,the second chapter divides the "Self-directed Growth" into three types,which is,one by one,"falling into the night:naive——frustrated——confused","long journey:frustrated-confused——wandering",and "looking back the past:confused-wandering——realizing".The typology is a method to classify novels by structuralism.Referring to the analysis of domestic scholars Chen Ping-Yuan and Xu Xiu-Ming,the basic narrative structure of the initiation stories of "After 1960s" is generalized as“naive——leaving——frustrated——confused——wandering——realizing——understanding the life and knowing yourself".The growths in the novels are summarized to three types of "Self-directed Growth".The third chapter focuses on the meanings of "Self-directed Growth" in the sociology,philosophy,and literature,which are the philosophical meanings of perceptual knowledge,the exchange of the attitude to the tradition from spurn to regress,and the literary mean artistic conception in the growing,especially the last one.The conclusion elaborates significance and limitations of“Self-directed Growth" in the initiation stories of"After 1960s",in the development of initiation stories in China.
