The Study On The Delicate Theory In Vocal Music Teaching Of Yi-Kwei Sze

Bass singer Yi-Kwei Sze was a celebrated musician,one of the top ten singers worldwide and a Chinese American singer who took an active part in the international stage in 20 century.He worked on music education in Hong Kong after graduated from National Conservatory of Music in Shanghai.During the Anti-Japanese War,he organized several endowment drives to fight against Japanese,and in 1947 he migrated to the United States for political and historical reasons.The Italians praise him as Golden Throat,the Americans comment him as Embodiment of Music,while the Hollanders call him Miracle of Music.Yi-Kwei Sze was also known as one of the three renowned Chinese together with Lin Yutang and Zhang Daqian.He used to be the director,lifetime professor and notable musician of Vocal Music Faculty in Eastman School of Music,University of Rochester and can extemportize world-famous musical compositions in Chinese,Italian,German,Russian,English,French and Latin.He played several dominant roles in numbers of operas in cooperation with world-famous orchestra and cantors.Additionally,his performance covered so many regions like Europe and America,Australia,New Zealand.His deep,unique voice and amiable,decent and extraordinary image on stage impressed public deeply thus he was considered as the world-class singer.Additionally,he also demonstrated unique charm in terms of art study and teaching.In his seven-decade artistical career,his unceasing exploration spirit is second to none.He insisted on the strict and high-quality style in vocalism theory teaching,and the delicate theory by him is what he contributed to New China’s vocal music.Hence,it is of great reference value to further study these theories for the study on vocal music development in China.In this paper,based on the life and art experience of Yi-Kwei Sze,his contribution to China’s vocal music education and vocal performance is investigated with emphasis on the delicate theory in his vocal music teaching,which has significant reference value to the research on vocal music art.
