This paper puts forward the concept of "farce discourse",which is used to refer to the tendency of comedy/farce in the intellectual narratives since 1990 s.Since the end of the 1980 s,with Wang Shuo's novels as the guide,and represented by the novels of Liu Zhenyun,Wang Xiaobo and Li Er,this tendency has gathered a large number of writers and works,forming a specific type of discourse,in which critical intellectuals is the subject of expression,Humorous and Sarcastic narration is the dominant aesthetic characteristics.This discourse constructs a comic/farce narrative world,pointing to the complex absurd historical reality of contemporary China,and reflects all sorts of absurd comic phenomenons of the local modernity.I name it as "farce discourse" in the Contemporary intellectual narratives.The "farce discourse" is characterized by the tendency of comedy and farce,which is the voice of the criticism of contemporary intellectuals,and is a kind of "Non thematic" intellectual discourse.We should treat the “farce discourse" as a pluralistic system.:On the one hand,it is composed of numerous works in which comedy/farce is the dominant narrative tendency,and formed a certain narrative rules.On the one hand,those different narrative practices of different writers forms the multiple expressional paths of the discourse.The reason for the analysis of the case by Liu Zhenyun and others is that they show the diversity of discourse.This paper is divided into three chapters as follows:The first chapter outlines the occurrence of the "farce discourse" in the "1990s".The social and cultural context of "1990s" is the realistic foundation of "farce discourse",the skeptical intellectual atmosphere is the ideological background,"the difficulty of the critical art" is the objective situation of narrative works.The critical artistic pursuit of the writer constitutes the inner core power of its development.The second chapter summarizes the basic narrative law of the "farce discourse".It is based on the “conversational” gesture and the narrative strategy of comedy /farce and Contradictory language logic,to build a kind of carnivalesque and absurd narrative world.The third chapter takes Liu Zhenyun,Wang Xiaobo and the novel as cases to explore the multiple expressional paths of the discourse.Under the basic narrative law,the discourse shows diverse narrative forms and horizons.Satirical allegory about history and culture,absurd poetics of Everyday life,and allegory of explanation of life are the main expressional paths of the discourse.The conclusion indicates the value of the times of the discourse: as an important critical intellectual narrative since 1990 s,it has the value of "political writing" which should not be ignored in this era.
