In recent years,it becomes increasingly prosperous that Chinese scholars and experts study foreign language teaching,especially the research on mother language teaching practice in foreign countries.It has become the focus how to better learn the essence of their language education to develop our own.This translation practice report is about the translation of the book named Primary English,Teaching Theory and Practice.It introduces the translation process in detail,gives examples to analyze the translation methods used in this practice,and summarizes experience and inspiration obtained from this practice.This translation report is divided into four parts.The first part is an overview of the translation project.It introduces the background and significance of the translation practice.It explains the reason for choosing the text to translate,and analyzes the significance and value of the translation practice.The second part is an overview of the text to translate.It briefly introduces the content of the book,especially the part to translate,and analyzes the target readers of the translation.The third part is the description of the translation process.In the preparation stage before the translation,the author analyzes the original text from two aspects:content and language features.Besides,the author has found a lot of relevant information and parallel texts.All of these have made full preparation for the translation practice.In addition,this part briefly introduces the plan of the translation practice,the proofreading and polishing of the translation.The fourth part is the application of George Steiner's Fourfold Translation Motion Theory in the translation practice.It introduces the theory,and gives specific examples to analyze the application of the theory in the translation practice.The initial stage"trust" is about fully recognizing the significance of translation practice;"aggression" stage is mainly for the understanding of long and complicated sentences and simple words;in "import" stage,the author mainly adopts such translation methods as addition,omission,adaptation,division and anastrophe in order to realize full expression;in "compensation" stage,the author mainly uses changes of forms and explanation of proper nouns to achieve the balance and compensation effect of translation.The last part is the summary of the translation project.The author summarizes the experience and shortcomings,and enlightenment including strengthening learning of basic skills,broadening translator's knowledge and cultivating translator's logical thinking and analytical skills.Through this translation practice,the author has a more profound understanding of the translation process,could use various translation methods more skillfully,and has greatly improved the level of translation.The author hopes that the knowledge and experience accumulated in the translation practice could provide useful reference and suggestions for translation of teaching class text of application type,and that it could be used for reference by English and Chinese reading teaching in primary school and primary school education research,making some contribution to further improve the levels of the teaching of primary school English and Chinese,and the education research of our country.
