| In recent years,China has implemented the "going abroad" cultural strategy, trying to promote Chinese literature to the world. The translation and introduction of Chinese literature is considered to be an important way for Chinese literature to go to the world.Under this background,it is necessary to pay attention to the research of the translation and introduction activities of the older generation, which will help to sum up the useful experiences for the present use.Among many translators of the older generation, who were engaged in the translation and introduction of Chinese culture and literature,Ye Junjian is the one worthy of our attention.Ye Junjian(1914-1999),a famous writer, literary translator and children litterateur, has long been engaged in the publicity work of China to introduce the excellent Chinese works to the world and to promote the cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. However, few studies on his contribution in the translation and introduction activities have been found up to now.Through summarizing previous studies,it can be seen that most studies have focused on Ye Junjian’ s translation of "Andersen’s Fairy Tales" and on his translation thoughts reflecting in the English-Chinese translation. They are not only relatively fragmented but also lack a systematic research on the Chinese-English translation. This paper summarizes and evaluates Ye Junjian’s translation and introduction activities all around.First,it explores the conditions of Ye Junjian’s translation and introduction activities: social contexts and personal advantages.Second,it summarizes his work patterns: independent translation and cooperative translation. Then,it sums up the dominant norms that govern his translation from two aspects: 1)the text selection with the modern Chinese works as a focus;2)the domestication strategy with combination, amplification and omission as three major skills through the study of Mao Dun’s "Three Seasons"("Spring Silkworms","Autumn Harvest" and "Winter Fantasies").This study can not only make people have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of Ye Junjian as a translator, but also provide useful suggestions for the“going abroad” of Chinese literature.Through a comprehensive and systematic description of Ye Junjian’s translation and introduction of Chinese works to the world, this study is expected to fill the gaps in this field. |
