Owing to the prevalence of globalization, communications and collisions among different cultures have been increasing with each passing day.An increasing number of literary and non-literary works, especially those focusing on intercultural studies have been introduced to China. As the guidance book which assists people in carrying out intercultural activities effectively in global era, works featuring intercultural studies play a more and more significant role. And translation studies focusing on such texts should also be paid much attention to.However, there are only a small number of such studies. Therefore, this report has selected the works edited by Janet M Bennett,a well-known American scholar in intercultural studies as the translation materials with the aim of making slightly positive contributions to the translation studies of such textsTranslation is a social behaviour. And there are always a set of norms both in the language systems of target language and original language. As for the translators, they also have to follow relevant norms in a certain way so as to make sure the translation version not only keeps the original information and style, but also satisfies the expectations of readers in the target language.Gideon Toury,a renowned Israeli translation theorist, discusses norms from the perspective of behaviourism, namely, preliminary norms, initial norms and operational norms. The selection of translation materials and overall translation policy as well as the use of single words have all been discussed in Toury's translation norms theory Guided by Toury's translation norms theory, this report selected intercultural texts as the translation materials based on preliminary norms and the principle of adequacy as the overall translation policy. Finally, the translator adopted translation strategies such as addition and omission, vocabulary selection, part of speech conversion, change of location, change of voice, division and combination from the perspective of vocabulary, sentence and culture, aiming to make the translation version more acceptable and readableIt is of certain significance for Toury's translation norms theory to guide the translation ofnon-literary texts. The translator found that it is feasible for the theory to guide the translation of non-literary texts as it illustrates a series of norms that translators should follow in the process of translation from macro perspective to micro one. However, the translator also found that it is a little hard to apply properly the principle of adequacy and acceptability as there is no clear standard between these two elements and their boundary also keeps changing all the time.
