Research On The Traditional Techniques Of Mother-of-pearl Inlay Lacquer Ware In Ji Shan County

The lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County,which has already been on the list of the national-level intangible cultural heritage in Dec,2014,can be regarded as the memory of the ancient life and living culture in Shanxi.However,its progress suffers from many existing problems and potential crisis: the techniques would disappear along with the death of the craftsman.Meanwhile,the whole academic field pays little attention to the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County.So,this article takes the traditional techniques of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County as a case study,and conducts a oral history research in order to fill the vacancy.And what's more,researching the cultural significance maintains the profound meanings to the understanding and the inheritance of the culture in South Shanxi.Taking account of this,we conduct a systematic analysis on the traditional mechanism of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl.And the article is divided into five chapters:The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the article,which explains the background of the theme,the target,the significance,current situation and research methods,which mainly demonstrates the feasibility of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County and propose an approach to the project.The second chapter introduces the historical origin of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County.Through a meticulous vetting to the history of the techniques of lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in China,this article is approaching to find out its historical source in Jishan County.The third chapter focus on the techniques of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County,which mainly about the raw materials,tools and facilities.And based on the oral historical data,we conduct athorough study on the technological processes,which ranges from the selection of materials to finished products.It includes refining lacquer,making and processing bodiless and base,pattern design on bodiless and wooden base,processing and cutting,inlaying mother-of-pearl,repeated varnishing,grinding and polishing.The fourth chapter mainly discuss the cultural connotations of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County,and we conduct the on the aspect of material selection,functions and shape of the ware,ornamentation and design,and inherent craftsmanship.The fifth chapter is about the inheritance and protection of the lacquer ware inlaid with mother-of-pearl in Jishan County.By analyzing its current situation of the inheritance,we can figure out the critical problems within and trying to find a way to promote its inheritance and protection.
