The thesis discusses the translation of inanimate subjects based on the partial translation of Cultural Analysis and Bourdieu's Legacy,co-edited by British sociologist Elizabeth Silva and Alan Warde. It is devoted to finding out proper translation strategies of inanimate subjects on the basis of the comparison between English and Chinese.Due to differences in subjects, figures of speech and thinking patterns between the East and the West,Westerners tend to use inanimate nouns as subjects while the Chinese prefers animate nouns. The key issues of the thesis are how to further define the concept, cause as well as the function of inanimate subjects on one hand and to present their translation strategies on the other. It is expected that this thesis will be complementary to others attempting to study inanimate subjects. |
