The thesis,based on the translation of two chapters of Economic Rules: The Rights and Wrongs of the Dismal Science,the latest work written by Dani Rodrik,and under the guidance of communicative translation approach put forward by Peter Newmark,attempts to deal with various strategies in the process of translation.The paper aims at producing a target text which is faithful,fluent and easy to understand,thereby,the main purpose of the translation can be achieved.The writer intends to illustrate the way for the translator to embody his competence in translating the economic text.On the lexical level,the thesis classifies various nouns that appear within the text,i.e.several unique terminologies and proper nouns as well as contextualization of common nouns in this economic text;on the syntactical level,it provides an analysis of several corresponding strategies for such issues that appear within the text,for instance,elliptical sentences,attributive clauses and other relevant complex sentences,the present author endeavors to enable the translation to conform to target language text and readership.Furthermore,it also discusses the cross-cultural phenomena in the process of translating this economic text by summarizing and classifying two categories of cultural words,trying to resolve the hindrance of understanding certain concepts in different cultural backgrounds.
