This report is based on the translation of Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World,one of the Success Book series of Cal Newport.In this book,Newport demonstrates deep work's value and rareness as well as secrets to go deep.In order to support his argument,he shares some renowned evidence-based examples,including stats geek Nate Silver and computer programming star David Heinemeier.This is a significantly convincing book with thought-provoking ideas and actionable advice,offering massive readers new observation on their own working styles and helping them avoid unnecessary distraction.In this connection,this book is worth being translated and then shared with massive Chinese readers.This translation project has been completed with the help of the author's knowledgeable supervisor and friends,from the pre-translation preparation,source text translation to post-translation proofreading.Before starting translation,the author finished a deep reading of the source text and analyzed its type features.According to Approaches to Translation,Peter Newmark categorizes most texts into three major types,expressive type,informative type and vocative type.However,most texts manifest the features of two or even more text types.In the source text selected here,the features of the informative are well presented.To complete the source text translation,the author found Newmark's text typology well suited as the theoretical foundation and conducted a research on the application of information explicitation tactic under the strategy of communicative translation.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter serves as a brief introduction to the whole task,including task background,purpose,significance,source text related information,the study of translation theory and strategy.The second chapter goes to detailed task process description.The third chapter,the major part of this report,is devoted to case studies,a discussion on the application of information explicitation tactic.The last chapter is conclusion,in which the project's major findings and limitations are illustrated.By completing this project,the author finds that explicitation translation boasts the advantage of both free translation and literal translation.Through the explication of hidden information of the source text,translator can produce target language readers' familiar translated text,enabling them to absorb the maximum source text information.At last,the author hopes that this project report can be useful to similar translation practice.
