To a large extent,the stylistic features of fiction reflect literary value of them.For fiction translators,it is of importance that whether to deal with stylistic features in fiction correctly.Shen Dan,who is a famous stylist in China,thinks that the literary value relies in both fictional facts and linguistic form.But during fiction translation,the literary values are lost because translators overlook the stylistic features on fictional facts and linguistic form.The First Brazier is a classic fiction written by Eileen Chang,the language of it has its own style.Karen S.Kingsbury's translation The First Brazier is collected into Penguin Classics Books.With a view to the salient stylistic features of the fiction,this thesis analyzes peculiar similes,imagery and description for characterization in original text and Karen S.Kingsbury's translation of The First Brazier in terms of linguistic form.In terms of fictional facts,this thesis analyzes idiomatic expressions,deviated rhetoric and paradoxical expressions in original text and Karen S.Kingsbury's translation of The First Brazier so as to find out whether the main stylistic features of the original text are preserved in the translation,and analyze how the translator handles the stylistic features in original text.Through the research,the author of this thesis finds out that in terms of linguistic form the aesthetical effects or stylistic effects generated by peculiar similes are maintained while the stylistic effects generated by other stylistic features are not conveyed fairly well in English version.In terms of fictional facts,stylistic effects of paradoxical expressions are maintained while idiomatic expressions and deviated rhetoric are not conveyed fairly well.The study on Kingsbury's translation of The First Brazier from the perspective of literary stylistics proves that the literary stylistics workable in fictional translation.This study will be helpful for learners have a better understanding of The First Brazier and for those translators who conduct literary translation.
