The Reproduction Of Character's Psychology In Novel Translation

Novels,poems,prose and dramas are known as four main literary forms.Novel is a kind of literary form which focuses on the characterization,reflecting social life through the whole story line and environmental descriptions.In novels,the methods to portray character include psychological description,action description,conversation description,appearance description,facial description and so on.Novels are literary works with integrated layout,development and theme.Novels can not only provide new knowledge for readers but also show them a colorful emotional world,in which the readers can exchange ideas and communicate their feelings with the writers.Currently,with the development and expansion of globalization,more and more novel works flow into our country.Therefore,translators should give full play to the role of medium and bridge,improving the quality of novel translation.In this paper,the translator chooses Chapter 17 and Chapter 18 in the English literary work Fred & Rose as the translation research object.There are lots of descriptions and psychological activities in the source text.According to the characteristic of the source text,the translator chooses the semantic translation theory as the guidance and researches how to reproduce the character's psychology well.Under the guidance of semantic translation theory,in order to reproduce the source text well,the translator should endeavor to be close to the source text,presenting the stylistic and language characteristics,polishing the language in translation and eventually reflecting the character's psychology well through direct and indirect psychological description.According to the semantic translation,the translator should pay attention to the semantic analysis of the source text,emphasizing the sentence pattern and unique way of expression,not only expressing the contents but also reproducing the language styles and writing characteristics.
