Listening teaching has always been the focus of college English teaching.The percentage of listening comprehension in CET4 and CET6 has increased to 35%,which indicates the great significance of listening ability.More requirements have been made on college English listening teaching so as to solve the problem of the low listening level of the students.Flipped classroom has offered a new teaching mode for college English listening teaching.This study applied flipped classroom teaching mode in college English listening teaching to non-English major freshmen in order to explore the following three questions:1)What is the current situation of college students' English listening learning? 2)What is the current situation of college English listening teaching? 3)Is it effective for the flipped classroom teaching mode to be applied in college English listening teaching?The subjects of the study are 110 non-English major freshmen from Qingdao University of Science and Technology and 30 English teachers from the same university.The quantitative and qualitative method are adopted in the study.1)The questionnaire is used to investigate the students' listening attitude,their problems in learning and their attitude towards current listening teaching as well as their expectations for the teachers;2)Another questionnaire is used to investigate the teachers' attitude towards current English listening teaching situation,teaching method and their teaching problems as well as their knowledge about the flipped classroom teaching mode;3)The students are divided into two classes,one class of which is taught with the traditional listening teaching method while the other is taught with the flipped classroom teaching method.Then the author does a three-month teaching experiment,testing the students' listening level before andafter the experiment in order to find out the effectiveness of the flipped classroom teaching mode compared with the traditional classroom teaching mode.Based on the analysis of the relevant data,the following findings are concluded: 1)The current situation of college students' English listening is very worrying.They not only lack in autonomous learning motivation,learning interest,but also in effective methods to improve their listening ability;2)There are many problems in college English listening teaching.Some of the college English teachers still adopt the traditional teaching method which fails to mobilize the students' learning initiative and enthusiasm.The listening class is boring to the students with low participation.3)the flipped classroom teaching mode can mobilize the students' learning initiative and enthusiasm,increase their listening input after class so as to improve their listening level.
