| Xie Bin(1887-1948),born in Hengyang Hunan,was a bourgeois revolutionary and a patriotic scholar in modern China.He was born in the late Qing Dynasty when China was undergoing the greatest change in history and the background of national crisis and ideological collision contributed to his character of commitment to learning what can be utilized to serve the nation.Xie participated in several revolutions and wars such as Wuchang Uprising,the Campaign to Defend the Republic,the Northern Expedition and the anti-Japanese War.Meanwhile Xie traveled throughout the country and accomplished over 20 writings.Xie was erudite and his writings covered fields of politics,economics,history and research of borderland,especially Chinese borderland.Xie’s research of Chinese borderland,involving almost all borderland issues during late Qing and early Republic of China,offered a reference to solving future borderland issues by discussing achievements and losses that China’s government had made concerning such issues and concluding key points on the administration and negotiation of borderland.Such research also provided political,economic and cultural consultant based on Xie’s field investigation of local politics economics and culture.Xie Bin’s research objective was to maintain the sovereignty and territorial integrity and his research methods emphasized that field investigation equaled literature and documents,thus more accurate and detailed conclusions was drawn comparing previous borderland research.Xie’s borderland works were published mainly in 20’s and 30’s last century,and were published again several times,and has contributed to borderland political researches and borderland political decisions at that time.This paper consists of 5 parts with INTRODUCTION part generally introducing Xie Bin and his borderland researches and methods,innovation and disadvantages of this paper,Part I introducing biography of Xie and reasons why he dedicated himself to borderland research,Part II discussing Xie’s research on borderland sovereignty,Part III discussing Xie’s research on borderland administration,Part IV analyzing Xie’s objective,methods,ideological characteristics and influences. |
