Ache Lhamo Study In Anglophone World

Tibetan drama,called “Ache Lhamo” in Tibetan,is a comprehensive performing art evolved from Tibetan folk oral art,music,dance and religious rituals.The constant development of Ache Lhamo has cemented its popularity in Tibet generation after generation.Ache Lhamo began to gestate and form from original Tibetan folk music,dance and rituals,gradually enrich its performance with the development of Bon(1)religion and folk performing arts.After the comprehensive introduction of Buddhism in Tibet and establishment as the main religion of Tibetans,Ache Lhamo was influenced by the Buddhist ceremony,which nourished this performing art profoundly.By closely integrating with the religious ritual,Ache Lhamo becomes a great combined art form of religiousness and entertainment.For a long time,Ache Lhamo has attracted worldwide attention,it not only is one of the hot topics of Tibetan studies in China,but also attracts many scholars in other countries,including scholars in Anglophone world.In the early nineteenth century,in the western world,some scholars had mentioned Ache Lhamo in their research.Ache Lhamo story texts' translation has gradually appeared and recently scholars conduct academic research on Ache Lhamo,whose research findings are fruitful and meaningful.Therefore,the author chooses Ache Lhamo study in the Anglophone world as the research object.This thesis studies on the translation works and research of Ache Lhamo produced in Anglophone world based on more than 30 relevant articles and translation works.With the advantages of western scholars drawing on exotic cultural backgrounds and rich theoretical knowledge,they inevitably adopt western academic perspectives and methodologies.For these reasons above,this thesis attempts to utilize the variation theory to explore Ache Lhamo study in the Anglophone world.The author applies variation theory to discuss the Ache Lhamo study in Anglophone world in various aspects.Because of their different cultural and academic backgrounds,the scholars in Anglophone world select certain perspectives and methods,which are different from domestic researchers,which will enlighten the scholars study on Ache Lhamo in China.Summaries and studies on the results of their research will undoubtedly strengthen our research efforts and broaden research aspects of Ache Lhamo study in China.Meanwhile,the translation works of Ache Lhamo in Anglophone world provide an extraordinary platform to spread Tibetan culture all over the world.But there still exist some misunderstandings and misinterpretations in their translation works due to the cultural differences.By studying those misunderstandings and misinterpretations,this thesis will offer possible beneficial enlightenment for Chinese scholars to ponder over on the topic of minority culture's “going out”.
