Cognitive linguistics studies language from a new perspective, and believes that human cognition has an important influence on the development of linguistics, which is accepted by scholars and related people.Image schema theory is an important part of cognitive linguistics.Scholars have their own characteristics in the definition of image schema, but its essence is that external things form a space reflection in the mind to help human reason and cognize things through the body experience.Image schema is complex and can be divided into many categories in accordance with different classification criteria. The most common ones are container schema, path schema, before and after schema,part-whole schema and center-edge schema.Translation strategy based on image schema provides a new perspective for the translation. However, related researches still have some limitations. Therefore, the practice report is a combination of both theory and practice making it forward for the studies of theory and translation.Thinking and Reasoning is a language book written by psychologist Ken Manktelow. He describes how to think and how to carry out logical reasoning. The book mentions many methods of reasoning, involving psychology, biology, philosophy, linguistics and many other fields. The fifth chapter in the material mainly deals with various kinds of reasoning methods and applies them to different fields, which provides the correct way and means for human beings to predict and understand things.Under the guidance of image schema theory, the translator makes a comparative study of Chapter 5 of Thinking and Reasoning and summarizes the translation strategies of the original text in combination with the characteristics of the original text.Practice has proved that image schema theory can improve the quality of the translation and presents a vivid image making it reachable and readable for the target language readers.
