Code-switching refers to the concurrent use of more than one language or language variety in a conversation.Since the 1970 s,code-switching has drawn scholarly attention, and many researchers have studied it from different perspectives.Compared with studies on bilingual code-switching,the studies on code-switching between two varieties are relatively fewer. The thesis studies Mandarin-dialect code-switching in the entertainment program Day Day Up from the social-psychological perspective.Based on the data about hosts' Mandarin-dialect code-switching in the program,we first identify two major accommodation strategies adopted by hosts and calculate their frequencies, then analyze the social-psychological factors that influence hosts' choices of accommodation strategies, and finally we explore the effects achieved by hosts' adoption of different accommodation strategies.According to the Speech Accommodation Theory,we analyze the data and find that the strategy of convergence is far more frequently adopted by hosts in the program. As for the social-psychological factors affecting hosts' choices of accommodation strategies,we hold that four factors such as the psychology of hosts, hosts' sense of social identity, the immediate situation and the social exchange process may have impact on their choices. In this program, speech convergence can win approval from guests, enhance understanding and communication efficiency, and show solidarity and identification with guests, while speech divergence can emphasize hosts' identities and create humor. The study,by exploring Mandarin-dialect code-switching in the entertainment program,is aimed to offer some guidance to people in daily communication and provide further empirical evidence for code-switching research.
