Chinese gardens are an important heritage of human civilization, and it is widely recognized as the mother of the world gardens as well as a wonder of world art. With its value greatly admired,it is appealing to tourists all over the world. In the process of introducing the Chinese garden to the world, translation has become an increasingly important thing to do.However, due to the numerous cultural elements embedded in the texts of publicity for the Chinese garden and the huge gap between Chinese and English, translators find it a daunting task to render such texts into English. In practice, the cultural view on translation is of great significance to the preservation, transmission and construction of cultural elements. This thesis will take the Cultural View on Translation as a guide by which to explore the ecological, material, institutional, behavioral and mental elements, all elements subsumed under culture, within the texts of publication for the Chinese garden. At the same time, whether those elements are effectively transferred, preserved and constructed would be closely examined. The theoretical significance of this thesis lies primarily in expanding the application of the Cultural View on Translation into the study of translation of the text for the publicity for Chinese gardens, focusing on the preservation, transmission and construction of cultural elements. The value for its application manifests itself in providing insights into translating the texts of publicity for Chinese gardens after an in-depth exploration and analysis,in a bid to promote the dissemination of the Chinese garden culture,to attract overseas visitors, and to produce economic benefits.
