Transediting as a sub-area in translation studies has attracted much attention in the academia. Many research attempts have been made to explore the issue of transediting. But they are still desired in terms of theoretic frameworks, research areas and specific translation methods.Beginning with the characteristics of news and its communicative function, and following Sperber and Wilson's Relevance Theory and Gutt's Relevance Theory of Translation, this paper is intended to present an integrated study of transediting, with much emphasis on the method of transformation.By analyzing the examples from the latest news articles on South China Morning Post, this paper testifies the explanatory power and applicability of the Relevance Theory, and illustrates that the ultimate purpose of transediting is to achieve the source language text's contextual effect and the optimal relevance in the target language world so as to help the target readers understand the source text and realize the purpose of international communication.Such findings may compensate for the drawbacks of the pre-existing studies and promote the development of transediting research.
