The world nowadays has witnessed increasing communication in the field of law among various countries,and translation of legal judgments is a case in point to prove that.For one thing,person to person exchange will undoubtedly bring about cultural exchanges,and for another,it is prevalent nowadays for a country to learn from cases of similar or same subjects of other countries with the aim of reaching comprehensive conclusions.Against such backdrop,the author of this paper chooses a legal document,Trial of Second-Instance of Alimony Dispute Case of Lu in a bid to better observe the differences between various legal systems and to draw certain useful conclusions for future translation work.There are two parts in this report.The first part is to translate the source text with the help of CAT tools-SDL Trados 2011 and to analyze two kinds of parallel texts.The second part focuses on problems that arise from the translation process,their solutions as well as translation strategies.The main features of the source text are as follows: first,there are numerous words with Chinese characteristics whose meanings are hard to be conveyed successfully;second,there are a multiple of legal terminologies which have no equivalents in the target language;third,lengthy sentences account for a large percentage.To better solve the above problems,the author adopts the theory of pragmatic enrichment.Through this project,the author hopes to fulfill the following goals: in the first place,to apply what she has learned in the class into practice and to learn more about the features of Chinese legal documents;in the second place,the author wishes to get a better understanding of the functions and differences of varied legal systems and to better employ the acquired knowledge in the future legal translation.
