The capitalism, with new liberal baptism, has entered a new stage.American scholar Hardt and Italian philosopher Negri keenly are aware of the changes in the global political order, and put forward the epoch-making empire theory.Empire,as a trend of historical development, not only inherit the imperialism but also break it.The Empire represents a new view of power that combines legal control with the police power. The established new order in the global political economy involves two dimensions: all the space and all the time. This thesis will focus on the study of Hardt and Negri's philosophy of history, and interpret the importance of the empire in the framework of philosophy of history. The first part of the thesis mainly elaborates the original intention and significance,as well makes a literature review of the latest domestic and foreign research on the empire theory, and then explains the entire path of thinking. The second part of the thesis clarifies the theoretical reference of Hardt and Negri's philosophy of history. The key theories involve Spinoza's Multitude and the power of love;Kant's transcendental criticism and the shift of philosophy of history;Marx's subsumption analysis and the proletariat concept;Foucault's biopolitical philosophy;the concept of rhizome in Deleuze and Guattari. The third part discusses the main contents of Hart and Negri's philosophy of history.First of all, based on the history and characters of empire concept,it mainly analyzes empires' historical origin, social forms from discipline to control, immaterial labor theory of driving forces for historical development. Then,it explains the significant meaning of Multitude that is a new historical subject in the history. In addition,it specifically analyzes the historical stage of the empire from imperialism to empire in the form of resource possession forms, production methods and cultural manifestations. Finally, the republic of property steps into republic of Multitude through the power of love and poverty. The fourth part mainly elaborates the value and significance of Hardt and Negri's philosophy of history, and points out its theoretical deficiency.Hardt and Negri's ethical political struggle lacks the economic and political considerations of social development, and the proposed response measures are superficial, unable to touch the deepest nerve of the Empire.
