The Translation Report On Chinese Four-Character Idioms In The Sky Of Sinology Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

Chinese four-character idioms consist of four words or four syllables,which are short and concise with well-structured feature.Various four-character idioms are present in the speech collection of The Sky of Sinology.As a result,the translation effect of four-character idioms can make a great influence on the fluency of the entire collection.It is not easy for the translator to keep the structure and form of four-character idioms and express the original meaning when translating.The translator uses the method of qualitative analysis to divide four-character idioms into six classifications according to different semantic structures of four-character idioms.For different classification of four-character idioms,the report analyzes the structure and logic of four-character idioms and applies the translation strategies,including addition,omission,substitution,transformation,etc.The translation strategies have been used to obtain the high-quality translation,which can make four-character idioms to show the original effect in the target language.The entire translation is accomplished based on the skopos theory,which emphasizes the translation purpose determining the translation process.Under the guidance of the skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule of skopos theory,the report carries out the case study on features of different four-character idioms and solves problems occurring in translation process so as to reach the communicative needs of context and expectation of readers.The report concludes the analysis of translation strategy of four-character idioms after the translation of second chapter of The Sky of Sinology,hoping to offer references for translation of the whole book.
