Address form is an important part of interpersonal communication. It is not only a deixis, but it can reflect the identity, occupation, age about the two communicative sides. It also can reflect the relationship between the two communicative sides,so as to convey listener accurate first-hand information. Many scholars explore the use of address formsfrom society, conversational analysis and pragmatics, discuss the influence of power and solidarity to the use of address forms. Then what influence power and solidarity makes to the use of address forms? This paper makes an in-depth study of address forms in Thunderstorm,in order to reveal the relationship among power, solidarity and address forms.Chinese culture is extensive and profound.Compared with the usage of address form in English, the usage of Chinese address form is unique and complex, which has great research value.Interpersonal relationship in Mr.Cao Yu's Thunderstorm is very complex, and he uses the address form frequently and accurately. We can figure out the relationship and emotional changes through the usage of address forms in Thunderstorm.Power and solidarity,as two extremely abstract context parameters, they can only be used as a carrier.Language, entity which is based on the power and solidarity, two semantic entities, can reflect the relationship between the participants in the language communication. This thesis based on the theory of power and solidarity, selecting address forms inThunderstorm, which can be divided into kinship andnon-kinshipaddress terms, trying to explain the impacts of power and solidarity on the usage of address forms and the interpersonal relationships between characters. This thesis mainly focus on three questions:1)What are address forms in Thunderstorm?2)What are the corresponding address forms to the certain social relationship?3)Why do the characters use different address forms to make communication? In order to solve above questions, the author collects address forms in Thunderstorm, then makes a classification table.Next, the author analyzes the social relations of characters according to the use of different address forms. Finally, the author uses solidarity and power relationships to analyze the reasons about using different address forms. The first part of this thesis has a brief introduction including significance, object and structures. The second part introduced abroad and domestic studies about address forms. The third part introduced power and solidarity theory. At the same time, the main ideas of Brown and Gilman are introduced in details. The fourth part analyzes power and solidarity relationships of main characters through the usage of address forms in Thunderstorm. The fifth part lists limitation of this thesis and suggestions for further study. The results of the study are tentatively aimed at the purpose of the study. The study found that thecharacters withdifferent status use different address forms in Thunderstorm. The address forms aredistinctive. They use address forms to demonstrate their power.Perhaps, characters weak the power or increase the equivalence to achieve their own communication purposes. In general,it can be concluded that the greater power of the people who have the right to use the title, the more he can arbitrarily choose those who will use the low power of different kind of call, but the people of low power generally only use its title with respect; The power of different people in the use of language to call up on is not a layer of change, the two sides can increase the amount of equal or high power to weaken their own power to make use of the change in addressing language;relatively speaking, relatively speaking, the upper class uses formal, elegant and written address forms to address each other, social status affect the choice of address words.
