On The Transition Of Props In Traditional Sculpture

This paper attempts to describe the value orientation and the transition process of props in sculpture and realize the new value of props' transition process under the background of pluralism through analyzing and researching on the props in sculpture.In the past days,the use of props in traditional sculpture is based on the artist's choosing props on the condition that the subject status of sculpture figure keeps unchanging.In order to better create the story and supplement the identity features of sculpture figure,props are occupied with a serious basic function.As a part of sculpture,props actually accomplish the sculpture process with the subject of figure,and it has never been separated from sculpture.At present,with the art has been diversified;hence it is meaningful to refocus on the independent existence of props in sculpture.After the social and artistic function of props in sculpture has declined,the props are never occupied with the function of use and technology,and they have become an independent subject,so the sight of the audience has transformed from human being to object.At the same time,the remarkable changes of science technology have influenced the props in sculpture.The most obvious influence is that the involvement of finished goods and devices has changed the original form and creative means.Besides,the material has also changed.Science technology has allowed sculpture to use new creative materials.So some materials which could not be used into the creation of sculpture in the past can be used now,which makes the expressional language of props diversified.The ideal involvement and mass participation are the reasons why props' function has declined,and the breakthrough of new materials has brought the sculpture creation new possibility.That is the main reason why props become generalized.There are five chapters in this paper.The first chapter gives a definition of the subject of this paper,props in sculpture,and analyzes the differences between generalized props and props in sculpture.The second chapter analyzes the primary and secondary status,basic function and manifestation of traditional props through analyzing the application of props in traditional sculpture.The third chapter explains the identity transformation of props and its influence of function decline by analyzing the props' transition in modern sculpture.Chapter four summarizes the reason for props' ideal transition and generalization in modern sculpture.Chapter five is about the conclusion of this paper and author's outlook for sculpture's future development.Through the analysis of props in traditional sculpture and the comparison of props in modern sculpture,we can understand the new value of props in sculpture from a totally different perspective and renew our understanding of props' identity transformation,function decline and its ideal transition.Starting from the theory and practice and combining the influence of new material,new idea and new form on props,this paper systematically analyzes the present situation and the value of props and summarizes the existing way and existence value of props.This paper also summarizes the author's own orientation in sculpture arts creation and builds the author's own theory system and thinking method.The author believes that the hardworking research would bring a totally new understanding of props.
