This article mainly studied the works of Nobel Prize winner V.S.Naipaul in 2001,and selected his three representative works of "Liberty Country","River" and "African Mask" as the main analysis object.Naipaul's African writings,as a whole,have revealed the plight of recent independent and post-colonial Africa in the process of modernization,and further explored the impact of Naipaul' cultural identity on its African writing.This article will be discussed from the following four chapters:In the first chapter,this article focuses on the social dilemma faced by newly independent post-colonial Africa and the relationship between Africa and western outsiders,taking the " Liberty Country " as the main analysis object.The Africa'independence,to a certain extent,changed the relationship between Western outsiders(native)and African blacks(the other),but Westerners did not change the attitude of their prejudice and discrimination.In the second chapter,this paper focuses on the development dilemma of postcolonial Africa.Modernization is an important theme of the "River",the modernization of Africa move foreward and then backward,seem to be volatile,Naipaul tried to find reasons in many ways,such as the imitation of post-colonial African people,the president is engaged in dictatorship,the ugly national character that is exposed in the process of modernization.In the third chapter,this paper focuses on the spiritual and cultural dilemma of Africans.Although the introduction of foreign religions broke the traditional pattern of African faith,but the traditional religion in the hearts of Africans is still deeply rooted.Through analysis,Naipaul intends to state that it is Africa's traditional religion that binds the minds of Africans and makes the Africans go back on a modern path.In the fourth chapter,this chapter follows the above,and analyzes the influence of Naipaul's cultural identity on his African writing.Naipaul double cultural identity have a signiificant impaction on the writing of Africa.On the one hand,Naipau criticized the colonial rule of the harmful effects on Africa,have sympathy for the people of Africa,on the other hand,Naipaul pretemit colonial discourse at the stealth level.Reflect the contradictions of hisAfrican writing.This paper attempted to draw the conclusion that,in these three works,Naipaul showed the readers the post-colonial Africa's "social reality picture","modern picture" and "spiritual belief picture",these three works together revealed difficulties that the post-colonial Africa faced.Different aspects of the expansion,enrichment and deepening,showing the continuous efforts of Naipaul.Although Naipaul's African writing was often criticized for his political and cultural standings,the conscience that Naipaul insisted to tell the truth and dilemma of contemporary Africa could not be denied.This three works are complex,delicate,fascinating and thought-provoking.Together with the other third world works of Naipaul,these works not only realized his global concern,but also refleted his status standpoint positioning relocation,and constantly beyond;this writing,with its sustained scale,Naipaul's historical and realistic observation of the depth,breadth and the sincere when he face the problem,have unique and significant contribution to the world's historty;His African picture and commentary,while extending the Western African themes,also exposed the long-term consequences of colonialism and issued a sharp warning that Africa should face and break through despair and self-salvation;this warming to global,to all third world people face their own postcolonial situation,face up to the heavy cost of modernization,face the backwardness of traditional civilization,with perseverance to the future,brought deep inspiration.
