With the implementation of Japan's foreign expansion policy from 1919 to 1922,Japan has been trying to seize the rights and interests of China's Shandong, leading to the growing contradictions between the two countries.Since then,China has set off a vigorous anti-Japanese movement. The United States,as one of the most developed newspapering countries in the world, covers the extensive and rich news on the Chinese anti-Japanese movement, which is conducive for us to understand the events from another perspective and grasp the concerns of American society in reporting and commenting on Chinese affairs,as well as the political position and attitude. This paper chooses 672 news reports on the anti-Japanese Movement reported by American newspapers from 1919 to 1922,and adopts the combination of data statistics and text interpretation to analyze and study the Sino-Japanese contradiction under the American news perspective, thus to explore the complex relationship among these three countries.First of all,the author makes a quantitative research on the relevant reports of the anti-Japanese movement in this period, including the statistical analysis of the total numbers, frequency, space words, and report form as well as news sources. And then sort out the major events concerned by American newspaper to reproduce the social events such as the May Fourth Movement, the June Third Movement,Fuzhou massacre,Washington conference and the Shandong issues which have been reported by the United States mass media. On this basis, the author analyzes the American newspaper's view on some basic problems of Chinese anti-Japanese movement, including the causes, the nature and the effect of the movement. Finally, the author holds a discussion on the political position for the American news reports. In general, its political position varies with time.During the Paris Peace Conference, forced by other imperialist powers, the United States basically denied China's anti-Japanese movement. At the time of the Washington Conference, the United States wanted to curb the expansion of Japan's privilege in China, began to sympathize with andsupport the anti-Japanese movement. To summarize,on this intensified Chinese anti-Japanese movement, the mainstream media of the United States basically upheld the neutral attitude and made an objective documentary report.
