People in China start to pay more attention to basketball since Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian joined the NBA,however, there are few translated works, and that's why I choose to translate The Book of Basketball. The Book of Basketball was written by Bill Simmons.Bill Simmons narrates historical backgrounds of the NBA's teams and some anecdotes of the NBA's superstars from his perspective with a main timeline and basketball terms as well as multitudes of spoken words. The book of basketball acquired its status of the No.1 New York Times bestseller on its publishing.Basketball fans of the USA regard this book as a classic book.Translation of this book aims at promoting basketball English and sports English and relevant background knowledge,as well as helping readers to better understand the history of NBA and some anecdotes during the NBA's development. It is hoped to help domestic basketball fans to have a more comprehensive understanding of the NBA,drawing lessons and experience and making Chinese basketball develop better. This report is mainly divided into six parts:cause of translation, description of translation task, process of translation, framework of translation theories, case study and summary.Functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida did a lot of help to the writing of this report. It is hoped that this report could do some help the beginners of translation.
