Experimental Research On The Impulsivity Of Community Correction Offenders

Nowadays the world is based on thehumanization of penalty,we begin topay more attention to criminals’ mental health level,a long term of imprisonment can affect their psychological health,under the impulse of this trend,community correction emerge as the times require.Community correction offenders is characterized by less subjective culpability of the mind,personal dangerousness,show true repentance via crime transformation and do not endanger society angin,because of the small proportion,compared with the criminals from the prison,the offenders in community corrections receives relatively little attention.A lot of research on community correction looked from the legal science angle,focus on the legislation and the organization construction of china’s community correction,from a psychological point of view,people pay more attention to community correction offenders’ mental health problem,the study on the personality trait and crime cause is still rare.Previous study found that compared with normal group,criminal groups showed higher impulsivity and lower self-conrol ability,we could say,the high impulsivity is the common characteristic in criminals.Community correction offenders are the special parts of criminal group,making a research on their crime cause offers us theoreticial basis and practical direction for the late correction,thereby helped them complete transformation and go back to society smoothly.In the present study,community correction offenders from Chongqing are the main research objects,standing at the perspective of experimental psychology,try to find the crime cause from their impulsivity,self-control ability,explicit and implicit attitudes towards temptations,try to use quantification methods of experiment to evaluate the impulsive personality traits of community correction offenders,hopes to provide some references for the coming research.This study consists of two parts.Study one adopt the Delay Discounting Task,Barratt Impulsiveness Scale and Self-control Scale to measure the difference between community correction offenders and common population.Study two adopt Stroop Task,Implicit Association Test and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale to exploring wether there’s correlation between implicit attitudes towards temptations and impulsive behaviors.The research subjects include 38 community correction offenders from Chongqing and 21 ordinary social groups.The paper can draw the conclusions below:(1)Community correction offenders showed the higher impulsive personality than common population,In the Delay Discounting Task,the community correction offenders are tending to choose rapid discount in face of high value goal.(2)There is a significantly negative correlation between the impulsivity trait of community correction offenders and their self-control ability.Someone who are lacking of self-control are more impulsive than others.(3)In order to measure these community correction offenders’ impulsive personality traits,We used BIS-11 impulsivity questionnaire.Then stroop task is used to measure these offenders’ capability of suppressing impulse.The personality trait is significantly correlate with the capability of suppressing impulse,which suggests the stroop task can measure one’s impulsivity effectively.(4)In face of tempting stimulus,the community correction offenders are showing both positive implicit attitude and explicit attitude.The implicit and explicit attitude are unified.
