Guan Xia,born in 1957,is one of the most famous composers in contemporary China.The Requiem for the Earth was created after he was appointed to The Wenchuan earthquake area of Sichuan province to experience life there by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and the Ministry of Culture.The task was completed in 2009.It was premiered in May 12,2009 in Chinas Grand Theater Concert Hall.This paper intends to analyze and study the main sweep of the work from the perspective of tonality thinking;and multi sound music language,with also an analysis of vocal music art and philosophic thinking.The paper has four chapters,which can be divided into three parts.So within the first chapter we will have mainly the comparative study of the Chinese and Western Requiem genres,which are divided into two sections.The first section of the study is aimed at the development of Chinese and Western Requiem genres;and the relationship of the requiem class and Chinese folk funeral music.The second section mainly studies how the Earth Requiem is created by the use of the requiem structure so will be elaborating the reference to the Western Requiem genre and the sublimation of Chinese folk funeral music in the works.The second chapter is mainly for the analysis of the composition techniques,including the tonality thinking and the multi-sound structure will be in the the third section.The second chapter of the tonality thinking feature includes four sections.The first section describes the the overall structure of the musical form;and tonality layout.In the second section,the paper analyzes and discusses the typical instrumental tonality;generally thinking in the first movement,and the second movement from the aspects of functional tonality structure and also color tonality structure.The third section mainly deals with the vocal tonality thinking in the third and fourth movements.In the fourth section,we mainlydiscuss the instrumental tonality of the vocal part of the second movement.In the third chapter,the multi-sound structure also includes two sections.The first section mainly analyzes the harmonic language of the Requiem for the Earth,and the carrying out of functional harmony and color harmony.It also deals with the use of functional harmony in our national pentatonic folk melody,and describes the specific organization structure of the chord materials in the works.The second section greatly focuses on the specific discussion from the perspective of music timbre,including the polyphonic texture formed between different instruments in the same music genre,the polyphonic texture formed between different genres,the polyphonic texture formed among mixed chorus and the polyphonic texture formed between vocal and instrumental music.The third part is the fourth chapter of this article,in which the first section will be a study of tudies the vocal art of the Earth Requiem.The second section mainly studies the philosophic thinking of the Requiem for the Earth.Through the analysis of this work,from the aspect both of Western requiem and professional Chinese requiem,this paper tries to interpret the Requiem for the Earth from composing skills.
