Multimodal discourses on various topics can be widely found in our daily life, such as websites of shopping, newspaper coverage. With the development of anti-corruption campaign in China, more and more multimodal discourses of anti-corruption have caught the public's eyes, which builds relationship and realizes the exchange of information and emotions between the discourses and readers through the integration of verbal and non-verbal factors. The research on multimodal discourses of anti-corruption still remains a blank, although the multimodal discourse analysis has been applied to different kinds of topics. Therefore, the thesis will do a comprehensive research on multimodal discourse of Chinese anti-corruption to help readers better understand the anti-corruption discourses. On the basis of Kress and van Leeuwen's visual grammar and the Halliday's functional grammar, the thesis conducts a deep and comprehensive analysis on the representational meaning, interactive meaning and compositional meaning to explore the meaning-making of anti-corruption images and the transitivity of anti-corruption texts selected from 15 multimodal discourses of anti-corruption in Anti-corruption Storm and China Comment.Besides, the thesis, respectively from anti-corruption images and texts, makes an analysis of the typical sample chosen from the 15 multimodal discourses of anti-corruption to probe into how signs are used to produce completely and profoundly anti-corruption meaning. Finally, through the comparison between the representational meaning of anti-corruption images and the transitivity of anticorruption texts, this thesis draws the conclusion on whether there is the essential relation between anti-corruption images and anti-corruption texts and how they are combined to construct meaning. It is found that,firstly,anti-corruption images introduce the detailed information and the background of anti-corruption events through representational meaning.Secondly, the interactive meaning of anti-corruption images plays a key role to attract readers' interest, which is realized by contact, social distance and perspective.Thirdly,anti-corruption images rely on information value and salience to make a rational distribution of different signs and thus realize the compositional meaning.Fourthly, after exploring the connection between the anticorruption images and texts,anti-corruption texts interact and cooperate with anti-corruption images to complete meaning construction. Therefore, the research significance is that it not only develops the field of multimodal discourse analysis providing the theoretical guidance to other researches, but also improves people's multiliteracies of the discourses of anti-corruption.
