Studies In Zhou Gong's Thought Of Establishing The System Of Rites And Music

In Chinese traditional thought,“establishing the system of rites and music”occupies an extremely important position.It has influence on Chinese civilization ranging from chronology to daily behavior.As the pathfinder of ritual civilization of the Zhou dynasty,Zhou Gong is the founder of the ideological system,which has profound and lasting influence on Chinese civilization.For Zhou dynasty,establishing the system of rites and music was a great event,it created the historical model of San Tong Wen Zhi(????),thereby laid the foundation of Chinese civilization.Previous researches on Zhou Gong pay more attention to historical facts,but no deeper or further study on his argumentation of system.As a result,the true value of establishing the system of rites and music was ignored.Thus,this paper aim to explain the argumentation and the philosophical basis of Zhou Gong's establishing the system of rites and music,revealing the connotation of establishing the system of rites and music from a more subtle angle of view.According to the studies on Zhou Gong's establishing the system of rites and music,this paper suggests that this event was by no means a contingent historical event,it was an inevitable result of a highly developed civilization,and it marked the transition of Chinese civilization from the Shamanism to religion,then to the feudal ethic code,in the meantime,it founded the historical model of San Tong Wen Zhi(????)of the feudal ethic code.This paper can be divided into four parts:the first chapter combs the backgrounds of the history of ideology and the history of classical learning,discussing the basis and the inevitability of Zhou Gong's establishing the system of rites and music from both macro and micro dimensions;the second chapter analyzes Zhou Gong's establishing the system of rites and music on three levels:Zhi Li(??)?Li Zhi(??)and Li Yong(??),explaining the argumentation basis of Zhou Gong's establishing the system of rites;the third chapter discusses the history of Zhou Gong's Zuo Yue(??),and the Shi Wu(??)made by Zhou Gong,interpreting the music theory and philosophical basis of them;the fourth chapter is based on the previous three chapters,it deals with the relationship between Rites and Music,discussing the culture reconstruction of ritual civilization taking establishing the system of rites and music as the core.
