Developing The Desire For Control Scale And The Relationship Between Desire For Control,sense Of Control And Subjective Well-being Among The Youth

Desire for control is the general motivation for an individual to exert control over events in his or her life,personality traits that affect the stability of various emotional and behavioral responses.On the basis of the existing domestic and international research and evaluation on the scale,the preparation has good reliability and validity and is suitable for the youth's desire for control scale,and then evaluate the basic conditions of youth's desire for control,discuss the relationship among desire for control,sense of control and subjective well-being.The data are analyzed by SPSS and Mplus.The statistical analysis methods include correlation analysis,T test,variance analysis and confirmatory factor analysis.The research results are as follows:1?The youth's desire for control scale includes four subscales: self-control,control of others,control of situation,and avoidance of being under control.The homogeneity reliability ? of the total scale and subscales are 0.829,0.803,0.830,0.738,0.687 respectively.The test-retest reliability of the total scale and subscales are0.848,0.826,0.847,0.754,0.718 respectively.Confirmatory factor analysis is performed using Mplus: RMSEA=0.058,TLI=0.891,CFI=0.876,SRMR=0.050.The reliability and validity of the scale are in good agreement with the requirements of psychometrics.2?The youth's sense of control scale includes two subscales: personal mastery and perceived constrains.The homogeneity reliability ? of the total scale and subscales are 0.791,0.669,0.686 respectively.The test-retest reliability of the total scale and subscales are0.752,0.701,0.732 respectively.Confirmatory factor analysis is performed using Mplus: RMSEA=0.071,TLI=0.852,CFI=0.893,SRMR=0.048.The reliability and validity of the scale are in good agreement with the requirements of psychometrics.3?There is a significant gender,age and marital status difference in the level of youth's desire for control.Male are higher than female,the older(more than 30 years old)are higher than the younger ones,married people are higher than unmarried people.4?There is no significant difference in age,sex,education and marital status among the youth.Only in the perceived constrains there is an age difference,and people who are at the age of 28 having the highest sense of control.5?Desire for control,sense of control and subjective well-being are significantly correlated between any two.Desire for control and sense of control are good predictors of subjective well-being.The sense of control plays a part of the intermediary role in the desire for control and subjective well-beingThe research conclusions are as follows:1?The youth desire for control scale and Chinese revised sense of control scale have good reliability and validity and meet the standards of psychometrics.It can be used as an effective tool to measure the youth's desire for control and sense of control.2?There are significant differences in demographic variables such as age,gender and marital status in youth's control.However,there is no significant difference in demographic variables among the youth.3?Desire for control can well predict the level of sense of control.Desire for control and sense of control can well predict the subjective well-being.The sense of control plays a part of the intermediary role in the desire for control and subjective well-being.
