A museum has long been considered as a place for spreading cultural knowledge and developing scientific researches and good spirits. The Museum of Soochow University is no exception. It presents alumni's great contributions to the marvelous development of the university, mirroring the splendid civilization that the Chinese people have created. The University History Hall, the main body of the museum, demonstrates the timeline, elitists, development achievements and promising future of Soochow University. This translation project is based on the author's experience of translating a Chinese introduction to the hall.Guided by the Theory of Relevance, the author has analyzed translation of proper nouns,four-character phrases, poems and loose sentences as well as appellations with Chinese features to explore practicable translation strategies. It is concluded that to achieve the aim of a guiding text which is to spread local cultures to people from different language backgrounds,a translator should take receivers' existing knowledge into full consideration and seek optimal contextual assumptions in order to output optimally relevant translation to them so that they could acquire maximum context understanding with minimum time and effort. It is hoped that the study may offer down-to-earth solutions for overcoming obstacles and problems in translating museum guiding texts.
