Yidu City of Hubei Province is known as the throat of Chu and Shu.The Yidu Museum has a rich collection with profound cultural and historical connotations.It is an important place to show the local history and culture.The English translation of the texts in Yidu Museum introduces and disseminates Yidu culture to foreign visitors,which has very important publicity value.This report is based on the commentaries,exhibits captions of Li Qibin Memorial Exhibition and Bronze Mirror Exhibition of Yidu Museum.They respectively ilustrate the famous local astronomer Mr.Li Qibin and the bronze mirrors unearthed at different times in Yidu.The overall language is easy to understand and rhetorical.However,the words in the celebrity memorial exhibition are rigorous and the language in the cultural relics memorial exhibition is hard to understand and rich in cultural vocabulary.Under the guidance of Vermeer's skopos theory,the thesis clarifies that the purpose of the museum texts is mainly to introduce the basic information and spread cultural knowledge.Followed by the rules of skopos,coherence and fidelity,the thesis sums up such translation strategies and techniques as literal translation,free translation,annotation,transliteration,addition of proper words and omission of superfluous words of museum texts.In addition,the author analyzes the strategies and techniques used in translation from the lexical and sentence levels.
