In this paper,an analysis is made about the strategies of the English translation of prose from the perspective of the theory of reception aesthetics. The translation of Yang Jiang's prose Wo Men Sa is taken as a case study. The theory of reception aesthetics stresses the role of readers in the acceptance of texts.According to the theory of reception aesthetics, the aesthetic value of the literary works can only be realized in the process of reading. This theory provides a guideline in prose translation, which involves the aspects of vocabulary, sentence and style. The vocabulary in Yang Jiang's Wo Men Sa is characterized by the use of a large number of culture-loaded words, idioms and proper nouns. The sentences in this prose are characterized by the use of short sentences in various patterns. The style of this prose is characterized by the use of concise and elegant language as well as the exquisite emotion between the lines. The author tries to fully reproduce the beauty of this prose in the translation and make the translation cater to target readers by considering the factors of fusion of horizon, horizon of expectations, blank points and aesthetic distance, which are the key concepts of the theory of reception aesthetics. The author adopts the strategies of transliteration plus explanation, literal translation, free translation and sentence restructuring while paying due attention to rhyme and antithesis in the hope of making the translation more idiomatic and well received by target readers. The author hopes, through this study,to make some contribution to the translation practice and theory about Chinese prose.
